It was incorporated in 1902, breaking off from Cicero and development was spurred by railroads and street cars connecting the village to jobs in Chicago. Frank Lloyd Wright purchased the property and built the home in 1889 with a $5,000 loan from his employer at the age of 22. He raised six children in the home and the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and declared a National Historical Landmark four years later.
